This week we have officially begun learning and preparing for the important celebration of Tu B’Shevat, honoring the trees. Tu B’ Shevat is a wonderful opportunity to stress the importance of environmental preservation as well as Tikkun Olam, repairing the world. This allows children to develop a natural curiosity and appreciation for nature and all its wonders. We kicked off our Tu B’Shevat preparation by learning about the life cycle of a tree. During circle time we started talking about some of the important things trees give us as well as how they provide homes for many different types of animals, shade and food for humans and animals. The children also got to plant grass seeds and beans. Each day it is their responsibility to water their seed and check for any new growth. We also read two books during circle time this week. The Tiny Seed is a story that talks about the adventures of one tiny seeds journey becoming a tree. We also read The Giving Tree a classic story that talks about all the selfless and countless things trees provide people.
