Even though it was a short week we were able to pack in a lot of fun. We had our first experiences in the new gym and yoga studio. The children really loved playing where the “big” kids get to play. Some played basketball, others Frisbee and soccer and the rest has a blast just running in a big open space. On Wednesday we met Miss Cheryl, our new yoga instructor, in the yoga room. There the children learned about yoga and why it is good for your body, heart and mind. We practiced our yoga poses as we traveled through Australia. Ask your children about the kangaroo pose, the wombat pose or the sheep pose. It was an amazing first experience. We will continue to have yoga on Wednesday and gym time for the rest of the year.
We also have continued to work on rainbows. In small groups we mixed and explored color in many different ways. The children mixed colors in cups or with their hands and put in onto paper. We also did a science experiment with clear unflavored Jell-O and liquid water color. The children used eye droppers to squirt the color inside and through the Jell-O. It looked like veins inside and dripped along the outside. It was so great to see the children’s faces as they got messy and were watching all the colors mix and go every which way. Another project we did was to make rainbow popsicles for Shabbat. Each day this week the children added different fruit juices in layers to make a Rainbow Popsicle. First it was strawberry(pink), then tangerine(orange) and finally grape(purple). They were fun to make, pretty to look at and yummy to taste. Next week we would like to do more tasting the rainbow. We are focusing on fruits and vegetables of all different colors. At circle time we talked about colors of food and how each color is good in your body. Each child picked a color and will need to bring to school 1 fruit and 1 vegetable of their chosen color and bring it to school by next Wednesday. Your child will be coming home with a note letting you know what color and what foods they picked. We are hoping this will not only be a lesson about color but a good experience to allow the children to try new foods with their friends.
