This week we continued our work on rainbows. We have started to create rainbows in many different ways. While working on these projects the idea of patterns and sequencing comes up often. Patterns help children learn sequencing and to make predictions in order to establishing order in life. Children learn this best through play and this works very well when you teach a concept such as patterns. As they enjoy the activity, they will understand the sequencing of items and predict "what comes next?" Sequencing is also very important concept for preschool children to develop since it allows children to recognize patterns that make the world more understandable and predictable. Helping children to sequence can help them learn routines and develop key academic skills like reading comprehension, math skills and scientific inquiry. To help children learn these concepts we have done group activities, science, and art projects.
Collage and paper art are very important to children in this period because art helps them to develop their reasoning, creative, imaginative, and problem solving skills. Doing art enhances their motor skills, hand and eye coordination, and helps them to make cognitive advances such as learning proportions. Our “Rainbow Project” was a perfect way to incorporate rainbows into art and to help develop fine motor skills, and to begin learning about patterning and sequencing. To help the children with this process we first provided them with construction paper of every color, shape and size we could find, glue and scissors. The children were then able to cut the scrap paper and glue it to a poster board. Next we worked one-on-one with the children, using sequencing to create a rainbow out of many different types of materials. Also some of the children had fun mixing 2-4 colors together to create their own unique color. Next week we will continue to work on Rainbow, more specifically eating the rainbow. *REMINDERS* NO SCHOOL Monday Feb 18th and Tuesday Feb 19th Shabbat Girl: Aliyah Feb 22nd Library: March 18th Mona and Cathy
