This week in room 23 was a HOT one. We spent much of our outdoor time experimenting with water. Though it might look like your child is just splashing around, water play can help improve children’s balance and strength. It takes more muscle strength to move arms and legs through water than it does through air. The children used many different types of pouring and scooping containers, as well as sponges, water cans and brushes to explore the water. Some even set up a car wash complete with sponges, soapy water and tricycles.
Water play allows children to explore and interact with each other. New experiences and discovering new things within shared spaces offer a great opportunity for social development. As children play, they will be excited to communicate their discoveries to everyone around them. This is a confidence booster for kids! Because water play typically occurs in a limited space with few supplies, children practice sharing with each other and working together while engaging in play. During art they had a small group opportunity to use and share colored water and droppers to create beautiful watercolor paintings. Different bodies of water offer endless opportunity for physical experiments and discoveries. Water also supports a variety of life forms like fish, frogs and even humans like us. These activities also provided the children another opportunity to explore their sense of touch and sight. We ended our week with the first Wise School Farmers Market for Beit Issie, in Israel. This year we are sponsoring a boy named Binaya, who receives services from Beit Issie. The children heard a story about Binaya and then we went to the market. The children a fun looking at all the great things there and then we all ate fruit together with room 22. It was a amazing first experience for the children. Shabbat Shalom, Courtney and Cindy
