Wow did this week fly by. Some of children were still talking about what they did or got on Hanukkah and others are excited to take a fun vacation. While all this is happening we also started learning about a new subject, scuba divers and all things under the water. This was initiated by our friend Max. He is extremely interested in scuba divers, their equipment and what they see under the ocean. Many of the other children have had experiences at the beach in and out of the water and some have been to aquariums. We started by getting books from our library and finding pictures in magazines and on google. Two books that have been of interest are The Deep Blue Sea by Audrey Wood that follows a story about the brilliant colors of the deep blue sea. And Menorah Under the Sea by Esther Heller, about a Jewish marine biologist that while scuba diving and exploring the waters of Antarctica collects many types of creates to create an underwater menorah. The children were inspired to create an ocean of their own, so they painted with blues and greens for the ocean and browns and gold to create the ocean floor. When we return from our winter break in January we will continue with this topic. To enhance our learning experience we would like to collect any items related to our area of study such as, books, pictures, toy sea creatures/shells, and items for dramatic play like goggles, masks or fins.
A quick thank you to Cathy who came to read to us in the library and a Happy 3rd Birthday to Ari!! REMINDERS * School Closed from Dec 24th-Jan 6th * School Resumes January 7th 2-19 * Shabbat: January 11th Ari * Library: January 7th Rachel
