As many of us learn about the wondrous process by which a caterpillar morphs into a butterfly. The story usually begins with a very hungry caterpillar hatching from an egg. The caterpillar, or what is more scientifically termed as a larva, stuffs itself with leaves, growing plumper and longer throughout a series of molts in which it shed its skin. One day, the caterpillar stops eating and hangs upside down from a twig or leaf and spins itself a silky cocoon or molts into a shiny chrysalis. Within its protective casing, the caterpillar radically transforms its body into a butterfly or moth. This week the children had the opportunity to watch this amazing transformation and journey of the butterfly come to an end. After temple on Friday room 22 and 23 said goodbye to the butterflies and we hope they come visit us again.
We also had a chance to celebrate Shavout at Shabbat this week. The children dressed all in white and made flower crowns to wear to services. We talked to the children about how Moses received the Torah on Mt. Sinai and how he gave these special rules to the Jewish people.
