This week has been busy learning all about Passover! We have had so much fun singing songs about the different aspects of Passover, like making matzah, banging hammers and digging with shovels, how Pharoah said "no no no" when Moses asked to let his people go, and how Pharoah woke up one morning with frogs in his bed! Our class especially liked singing Dayenu, which talks about how G-d did so many wonderful things for the Jewish people, and how just one of these good acts would have been enough. We made matzah pizza and talked about how matzah is different from bread.
If you want to continue telling the story to your child, here is the version of the Passover story that we told in class: A long, long time ago in the land of Egypt, there was a King named Pharoah. King Pharaoh was not a very nice king because he was mean to the Jewish people. He made them work very hard every day and every night. They had to build big buildings and pyramids. The Jewish people were very tired from all the hard work and they wanted to leave Egypt and be free. A very kind and good man named Moses listened to the Jewish people and wanted to help them. He went to King Pharaoh and said, "King Pharaoh, let my people go; they are so sad and so tired." Pharaoh said "No no no, I will not let them go." Moses said, "If you do not let them go, there will be frogs everywhere, on your head and in your bed." And that’s just what happened. When Pharaoh saw all the frogs he became scared and told Moses "Take all the Jewish people and go." The Jews wanted to leave as fast as they could so they did not have time to wait for the Challah bread to rise. Instead, they took matzah to eat. The Jewish people were so happy to leave Egypt and that is why we celebrate Passover every year with a Seder and tell the story by reading the Haggadah. Our Seder with all of your families was so special. Thank you to all who brought food and contributed to our special meal. We loved telling the story and reciting the blessings with everyone. It is times like these when we are reminded how beautiful this community is. We are grateful to all of you for trusting us with your beautiful children. Reminders: Tot Shabbat is Saturday April 6th. Spring Break is April 15-April 26!
