Hello all, This week we have been busy preparing for our Hanukkah celebration by learning all about the holiday and it's symbols. Your children have been playing with Hanukkiot, spinning dreidels, and tasting gelt. We encouraged the children to unwrap gelt on their own, which they all were able to do. They often count the candles as they place them in the Hanukkiah while we explain that there are eight nights of Hanukkah with one "helper" candle called the Shamash. At our play-dough table, the children are using dreidel, Hanukkiah, and Jewish star cut-outs. They pretend to bake cookies and give them to each other as gifts, while saying, "Happy Hanukkah." We also all worked together to roll paper towels through paint, which later became our large Hanukkiah that is now displayed on our wall. When Hanukkah begins, we will "light" a new candle each day. We allow the children to explore these symbols independently so that they can develop their own connection to Hanukkah. When we tell our Hanukkah story, they will recognize the symbols from their own play. We hope you enjoy the candle boxes your children worked so hard to make. We can't wait to celebrate all together next week. Reminders Hannukah Party- Dec 5 at drop off. Beit issie farmers market- Dec 14. Winter break -Dec 24 to Jan -4
