Dear Parents, Can you believe that in a few short weeks it will already be Hanukkah? This year is flying by so fast. We started talking about Hanukkah in the classroom, telling the children about the Hanukkiyah and the eight nights of Hanukkah. We talked about the shamash, the helper candle, which helps light the rest of the candles. The children have begun making various Hanukkah projects, using bopper paint brushes to paint poster boards in various colors that we cut down into candles to make our classroom Hanukkiyah on our wall. The children all stood up on the chair and posed for pictures to become the candles on our Hanukkiyah. We painted with blues, silvers and glitters with paint brushes working on the up and down motion, fine motor skills in action, to paint dreidels made out of paper which we hung up on our wall. We made blue glitter playdough in the class that the children have been molding and rolling out, using the Hanukkah cookie cutters to make shapes with, and they have also been exploring the playdough with the Hanukkah candles and the dreidels, singing “Happy Birthday” with the candles atop the dough, or hiding the dreidels inside and digging them out. This week we were fortunate enough to have Teachers Karen and Dani’s Pre-K friends join us for Music with Andrew. Together we sang a variety of Hanukkah songs ranging from Sevivon Sov Sov Sov (where the children all stood up and spun like dreidels), we shook out a parachute working on trying to get it to go up and down together and we rocked out to a fun song called “Miracle” by the Maccabeats. It was an amazing experience watching our children interact with the Pre-K students, following their lead and mimicking their behaviors. Our children were a little in awe of those “bigger” children but they were excited for their involvement in our class during that time. Those few with siblings in the Pre-K class enjoyed sitting with their older sibling and holding hands and singing together the whole time. In a few more days we will be coordinating to do a baking project with the same class. We baked cinnamon streusel muffins in class, counting out the eggs and talking about all the ingredients needed to make the recipe, and every child helping pour in the ingredients and mix the batter to smooth out the clumps. After lunch we tasted the muffins, and they were delicious and warm, fresh from the oven. We visited Beit Issie-Farmer’s Market on Friday. We had such a nice walk to the EC parking lot holding our rope, and we got fruit to eat. Thank you parents for all the berries, they made a delicious addition to our fruit cups at the Farmers Market! The money that is raised goes to help our friends that receive special care at Beit Issie in Israel. We went to Shabbat services and had a front row seat to sing along with Ditza and Rabbi Josh. The children love singing along to Bim Bam and I’ve Got That Shabbat Feeling to name a few. Shabbat Shalom, Debbie, Erika and Gali Reminders: Hanukkah Tot Shabbat with The BeatBuds!
