We had such an exciting week in Room 24!
We love working with our emergent curriculum because it allows your children to inspire what we do in the classroom. We are constantly taking note of the ideas and games that are originating from the children and incorporating them into the classroom. In the past several weeks, we have noticed two major themes-- dinosaurs and performances. Our friends love to take turns performing dances for everyone. First, the audience pays the performer, and then we make sure everyone has popcorn and chocolate milk before we settle in to watch the show. We applaud when they are done before the next friend gets their turn. It is such a joy to watch everyone take pride in their work when they have their special time to perform, and to watch the audience truly pay attention to what their friends are doing. We talked about dinosaurs last week, so this week we combined these two activities. Thanks to our wonderful IT and maintenance department, we were able to obtain a projector for the week and have been exploring shadows. Using cut-outs of animals, the children have taken it upon themselves to act out scenes, making the animals swim, jump, roar, and hug. We started by projecting with a jungle scene, but upon request have changed the scene several times, from the beach to a freeway with traffic. It has been so fun watching them explore light, changing shadows, and seeing the amazing ideas they come up with in their creative play. This week we also celebrated Yom Haatzma'ut. We have been preparing since last week making flags and banners, and on Thursday we got to celebrate with the entire grade level. We got to experience different aspects of Israel while rotating through each classroom. Our room hosted the "hospital," and we moved through each room, which each had a theme (Kibbutz, farm, Dead Sea, Jerusalem, and an airport) before all meeting together to celebrate and eat Israeli salad, hummus, pita, and birthday cake. Thank you to all the mothers and grandmothers that came to our Shabbat celebration. We love seeing our community gather and celebrate. We also love watching your children show you their classroom environment with such excitement. They have come such a long way since September, and the confidence they display at school warms our hearts. We are so proud of them. Reminders: Sign up for Camp Wise closes TODAY, May 10. Friend requests for next year are due May 15. Friday May 17th is a half day. No School May 27 in honor of Memorial Day.
