Dear Parents,
It's been a short and sweet week. We hope you enjoyed your time off and were able to spend quality time with all. During our Professional Development day, the staff engaged with one another, and we learned new things to bring back to the classroom. We heard from Farryl Dickter, a speech and language therapist and educational consultant, and Dr. Fran Walfish, a psychotherapist for children and families. It's always important as educators to stay informed with new information and continue our learning as well. On Thursday, Rabbi Josh introduced the holiday of Tu B'Shevat by telling a valuable story about a boy named Honi who came across an old man planting a tree. Honi asked the man, "How long until that tree gives fruit?" "Seventy years," replied the man. "Why bother?" He asked Honi, "You won't live long enough to enjoy it." Rabbi Josh talked to the children about responsibility, "Achrayot," and how important it is to take care of others. This story teaches us that it takes patience to plant trees and see them yield their fruit, just as one must be patient in order to achieve something they want, even if it takes a long time. We look forward to continuing our conversations on Tu B'Shevat and engaging in some different activities to get us ready for the holiday. We celebrated Shabbat by baking our own challahs, and then singing songs with Rabbi Josh and Jen in our classroom. Thank you to the Cohen family for joining us and adding to the celebration.
