Dear Parents,
The week has been very busy. The children are enjoying the Passover story, and they are even able to recite it themselves. As we told the story, sang songs, and engaged in hands on activities, it helped the children to really grasp a nice understanding of the holiday. During the week the children focused on some collaborated projects. They were given paper cups and we invited them to build their own pyramids. Many children began to build towers, so we did some problem solving about how to make the structure shaped more like a pyramid. They began stacking the cups end to end, right-side up and upside down, slowly building up the pyramid. As they worked together to build the pyramid there was mathematical discussion, shape recognition, strengthening of their fine motor skills, and teamwork. The blocks and Magnet Tiles were widely used this week as the children explored different ways they could build pyramids. By putting together the different shapes, the children used their imagination to build creative structures. Music was enjoyed as we danced with scarves and learned new Passover songs. As Passover approaches it's important to remember doing Mitzvot, taking care of ourselves, giving Tzedakah, and being kind. As this is emphasized on a daily basis as an importance of connecting values to Jewish experiences, we would like to do more during the holidays. On Monday, WISE school will hold a SOVA drive. There are things you can do with your children as a family to help them be a part of this. Over the weekend please visit the grocery store and pick up a Passover item or two for your child to bring to school. Items to include can be: Kosher for Passover canned goods, macaroons, Kosher for Passover Cereal, Matza, Gefilte Fish. Together as a class, we will visit the SOVA market to put our items in the bin. You can also pick up a bag at the SOVA market on Witzman Court, take the bag home, fill it and bring it back to the SOVA bin. You can also go with your child to the SOVA table and pay for groceries right there. As we know, children learn best by doing and this makes them feel good and part of their community. Shabbat was celebrated singing songs, listening to Rabbi Josh and Ditza preform the Passover story, and lighting candles and enjoying yummy challah. Thank you to the Noriani family for joining us and making it a special day. It was a time celebrated by all.
