This week we started off with havdalah in the temple, singing songs and coming together to wish each other a wonderful new week. We are continuing our unit on Thanksgiving, and our discussions are focused on understanding the meaning of being thankful and really appreciating the value behind it. We want the children to be able to realize that being thankful doesn’t always mean receiving materials. We can be thankful for being able to go to school, for mommy and daddy or simply for playing with friends. It is our goal to instill in our children the value of appreciation of little things. We have been working on a new concept that involves amounts or quantities. We started by asking the children what it means to be alone and they have told us that it means that no “one is with you,” “ you are by yourself,” “ there is just one.” We also introduced the term, 'single,' and we then moved on to ask what is a pair. Some children answered that it was a fruit. We then showed a pair of fruits and discussed that a pair means that there is two of something. To this we added the term, 'group.' We discussed that it means that there is more than just two in a group and when you put groups together, it becomes a community, something of which we are a part here in school. We will continue exploring this concept as the weeks go on, as it is part of the USC bridge curriculum. We are also learning how to recognize the letters in our name and putting them together using letter tiles. The children really enjoy this activity and find pride in it. We are also putting paper on our wall so the children can draw and write standing up to help strengthen their core muscles. Please remember that there is no school on Monday as we have a professional development day. Next week Shabbat girl is Ayla. Shabbat shalom. Anne and Bam.
