Dear Parents, This week we started our unit on Hanukkah. Your children are learning to recall the songs they have learned and the story of Hanukkah. They are so excited to explore with all the new Hanukkah materials that include a Hanukkiah, dreidels, candles, gelt, latkes and lots of Hanukkah stories! For our art activity this week, we experimented with shaving cream and paint. The outcomes were beautiful and unique masterpieces. This activity targeted the children’s fine motor skills by having to squeeze paint out of the bottles, use a light pressure and control how much paint came out of the bottle. We worked on hand-eye coordination by having to place the paint on the shaving cream areas where a previous color was not already covering the area. We also worked through the sensory experience of patting down the paper, which resulted in the shaving cream coming out on all sides of the paper and all over the children’s hands. Light Up Literacy- This Hanukkah, show your children how meaningful giving can be. Transform the lives of Guatemalan children by giving them the gift of reading. $10 buys 2 books/ $25 buys 5 for these children and, in return, Wise school students will receive a hand-woven friendship bracelet as a token of appreciation. Thank you to those who brought in oranges for our Farmer’s Market and for taking your child to pick out some fruit and vegetables to make our own delicious fruit salad for snack. This week we also started with a new classroom set up and schedule. Upon arrival, the children need to find their names that are located on a work table. At that table, there are manipulatives placed. Not only do the children learn name recognition, but they also then need to work together with the manipulative that is present. They are also learning to be patient by staying at the table until we end and then start our circle time. You will see that there is not a floor time set up to play with and we ask that children come on time each day so we can start our circle time promptly at 9:15. During circle time, we continue to work on recognizing names, both written and verbally spelled. We are also asking you all to please work with your child by practicing to spell out their name. This can be turned into a fun game during meal times or just randomly throughout the day. Shabbat Shalom!
