This week we introduced the story of Passover to our friends in Room 24. Using the flannel board and puppets, we began retelling the story of the Jews that lived in Egypt a very, very, very long time ago. In a nutshell…there was a king and his name was Pharaoh. King Pharaoh was not a very nice king and he was mean to the Jewish people. He made them work very hard every day and night. They had to build big building and pyramids. The Jewish people were very tired from all the hard work and they wanted to leave Egypt. A friend named Moses, wanted to help the Jewish people, so he went to King Pharaoh and said, "Let the Jewish people go, they are so sad and so tired. Pharaoh said, NO, NO, NO! Moses said, if you do not let them go, there will be frogs everywhere, on your head and in your bed." And that’s just what happened. When Pharaoh saw all the frogs he became frightened and told Moses "Take all your Jews and go." The Jews wanted to leave as fast as they could so they did not have time to wait for the bread to come out of the oven. Instead, they took Matza to eat. The Jewish people were so happy and that is why we celebrate Passover every year with a Seder. In honor of Passover, we will be singing the Frog Song, and hiding frogs all around the classroom. We will be eating Matza for snack and the children will be making Matza covers to take home. We will also be having a seder in class on Wednesday, March 25 at 11:00. You are all invited to join us. We hope you can come! It’s a great way to begin celebrating Passover as a community with our children, family, and friends. Please look for a food sign-up sheet in the classroom. Thank you to Jacki and Charlotte for such delicious healthy snacks this week! Wishing you a peaceful Shabbat!
