We had fun discussing Purim this week in room 24. The children enjoyed hearing Teacher Debbie retell the story of Purim using her felt story dolls. The children have been participating in telling the story and naming each character, such as King Achashverosh, Queen Ester, Uncle Mordechai, and the evil Hamen (booooo!). We made our own castle in the classroom, and it was exciting to talk about castles, who lives in castles and how big they are. On Wednesday, the children made their own hamantaschen dough. We added together all the ingredients, and took turns mixing the dough. It was a great activity to talk about taking turns and adding measurements. We let the dough rise overnight, and on Thursday, we made our hamantaschen cookies! Each child sat individually and talked about the triangle cookies that look like Haman’s hat. The triangle cookies were filled with cherries, chocolate chips or strawberry jam. Each child made their own cookies and got to take them home. What a special treat! We had a lot of water play this week, we are glad it is so warm. The children used different sized measuring cups and beakers to pour water and compare sizes. We had scrubbing brushes for cleaning buses, dinosaurs and babies. The wet sand made for great mountain building and sand castles. Please make sure your child is wearing sunscreen everyday on their bodies. Many children do not like the feeling of wet clothes, we do not want their faces or shoulders getting burnt.
We look forward to seeing each of you next week during conferences. Your children are so special, and we look forward to answering any questions and discussing their progress. Please try to show up on time, so each family has their 20 minute time with the teachers. Reminders: *Our exciting Wise Purim Carnival is Sunday, march 12th.
