What a fun week... In honor of Purim, we had a fantastic themed week. On Monday we started our day in our cozy pajamas and the day was calm and relaxing. On Tuesday our friends dressed up as superhero’s which promoted conversations about what a superhero is. These are some of the things they said: Henry- Superman, Batman and Spider-Man, they save people. Blake- all my friends are superheroes, because they have costumes. Nikolai-dinosaurs, because the dinosaurs say roar. Seth- I have no idea. Boom Vivienne- His costumes makes Batman a superhero. At a birthday party a superhero was there, also I was at the party too. Charlotte- Shiloh is a superhero, because she has a princess dress and I am a superhero, because I have a princess hair. Liam- Batman is a superhero and Superman is a superhero. I had a Mickey Mouse birthday party. The rest of the week we noticed a lot of friends participated in dramatic play, where they continued to use their imagination and create interesting and fun games. As your child pretends to be a firefighter, a doctor, or a princess, they are trying on different roles, some of which are associated with the characters of Purim. We had Queen Esther and King Achashverosh, along with Uncle Mordechai (when they hold the pretend Torah). They are expanding their creativity and imagination, problem-solving, and negotiating with their friends as they take turns with the costumes. It’s fun and it’s an activity that all our friends love to do. We colored eggs and garlic in honor of Nowruz , the Persian new year. We talked about the traditions and new beginnings. The children were able to explore the Nowruz Symbols such as eggs, garlic, flowers, coins, somac, vinegar, sabzeh, fish, and apples. A big thank you to Nazila for helping bring supplies for our beautiful Nowruz table. We hope all those who celebrate had a wonderful time with their families. On Thursday we had our Purim celebration with the whole school. The 6th graders chanted from the Megillah and some of our teachers acted out the Purim story. We shook our groggers when we heard Haman's name and paraded around the temple. It was such a fun experience. Thank you for the Sova and tzedakah. The class loves putting food in the bin before we enter the temple for Shabbat. Shabbat Shalom and have a wonderful weekend! Julia and Marcela Reminders: Conferences are next week- let us know if you don't know your time. Wednesday (the 27th) will be a half-day with pick-up at noon. No school on Thursday! Our class Seder is April 4th at 9:30. Mark your calendars, siblings and parents are welcome!
