This week was all about Purim.
We started our week singing Purim songs, dancing and playing different types of drums with Andrew in his music room, room 51. This was our first time visiting Andrew in his space. Being exposed to music each week helps our friends learn the sounds and meaning of words. Dancing to music helps them build motor skills and practice self-expression. It's also a lot of fun! During our story time, we told the story that happened a long long time ago in the town of Shushan. The children have learned the characters names--King Ahashverosh, Vashti, Esther, Mordechai and Haman. We sang many songs and talked about dressing up for Purim. In honor of Purim, we made Hamantaschen out of paper plates. First, the children painted a plate, and once dry, we helped them fold the plate into the shape of a Hamantasch- the next step was stuffing it with different colored tissue paper. Our friends were very proud of themselves, as we hung them up in our classroom. Ask your child what color tissue paper they chose. This week we also made noise makers (groggers) out of plastic water bottles. Our friends glued tissue paper on the outside of a water bottle and then put different colorful Pom-poms inside the bottle. A great activity for their fine motor skills and multiple- step process where we had to wait until the outside was dry and decorated for them to be able to put the Pom-poms inside. We will be using our groggers next Friday in temple when we hear the name of Haman and, of course, booing him. Today, we made delicious challah and decorated it with chocolate chips. The children show so much delight in the process of making challah again. Thank you so much for bringing Sova and tzedakah. Shabbat Shalom Julia and Marcela Our class Seder will be April 4th at 9:30.
