Dear Parents,
It's been another busy week in the classroom. The children are almost done with their books. We have been discussing with them that it takes time and effort to create a book and that’s why it's so important to care for the books we have. As they carefully work on each page, they are also practicing their early math skills by counting how many pages are in their book. In Preschool, learning math is all about counting, number recognition, and one-to-one correspondence. Counting is the ability to recite numbers in order, number recognition is the ability to visually recognize and name numbers and one-to-one correspondence is the matching up of a verbal or written number with an object. This week the children eagerly counted how many friends were in class each day, completed number puzzles from start to finish, and played a number memory matching game. They also spent time counting food items at snack time and recognizing and saying the numbers when we did the morning calendar. They are practicing these skills every day and becoming more confident when doing so. In an attempt to help foster your children's development, you can help them look for teachable moments. By counting things that are familiar to them, such as, socks, toys, silverware at the table, this will help maintain their attention and have more meaning. Also, you can point out and name numbers on street signs and houses, find numbers on appliances, telephones, and clocks, this will make learning fun. Shabbat was celebrated cozy in the classroom as the rain began to fall. We thank the Noriani family for joining us and making it more memorable. Please continue to arrive on time, as it's keeping a consistent routine for all. Have a nice weekend and stay warm, dry, and safe, we will see everyone on Wednesday, February 22nd.
