Dear Parents, This week has gone by very fast! We have been discussing with the children about Pre-K and slowly introducing them to the idea of a new classroom. As this can be met with a mix of excitement and anxiety for children and parents, it's fun to embark on a new adventure and the children's delight in the feeling of moving up to a big classroom. As we talk about some of the differences they will experience in Pre-K, such as, no tap time and a bigger play yard, there are definitely a lot of questions. In the next week or so the children will get the opportunity to visit the classrooms and play on the Pre-K yard. This helps them become more familiar and alleviate any anxiety they have. During the week, we were inspired to have the children do a painting activity inspired by the famous artist Jackson Pollock. He was very well known for his drip and splatter painting technique, which he did on a large scale on the floor. Painting on the floor allowed him to move around the canvas and actually "get into" his paintings. For this activity we provided a very large box with a piece of paper inside. The children were given large brushes and paint and threw their whole self into the painting process. Splashing paint in the box was both constructive and enjoyable for the children. Painting allows children to express their creativity and have fun. Developing a skill like painting provides the stimulus children need to be successful in all areas of development. By learning to paint, children gain a skill of which they can be proud. It gives them a foundation to look at the world with the confidence that they can accomplish a goal. Because there is no right way in the arts, children who paint can be proud to be unique and to express their artistic style. On Thursday the children enjoyed Rabbi Josh as he talked about Shavuot, and on Friday, we celebrated Shabbat in the Temple. We thank the Ghodsian family for joining us and making the day more memorable.
