Dear parents, This week has been filled with fun and exciting explorations in room 15.Your children have created a beautiful Star of David collage using fall items they found from while on a nature walk around the school. It was so refreshing to see the children use their problem-solving skills to figure out a way to collect the leaves, twigs and bark they found. Using their helmets as a bucket, they carefully placed each of their discoveries inside. Working as a group and they took their time to layer the fall items onto the star. Your children are continuing to bond and develop friendships. Outdoors they can be seen running and giggling while at play. Climbing on the structure and hanging on the monkey bars are some of their favorite outside activities. Playing on the outdoor equipment develops body awareness, as well as promotes gross-motor skills. Working their cores, shoulders, forearms and fingers is especially important at this age. Your children are also learning about patterns. This week we have been using pumpkins we have in our class to make simple patterns such as: small/big, white/orange. Patterning is an important skill that children are capable of learning at a very young age. When they understand patterns, your children are able to see connections, make prediction about what comes next, sequence, all of which are pre-reading skills. After a fun tricycle ride on Wednesday, we had music with Brock. This time, Brock brought in rain sticks and a parachute for the children to play with during music. We all had a blast. Thank you to all of you who brought in pumpkins, pine cones, Indian Corns and gourds to add to our fall decorations. Our room is becoming more and more festive, and perhaps most importantly, more and more interesting as each of these items invites the children to explore, observe, investigate and hypothesize. I also want to take this opportunity to thank Danielle for all her help in room 15 while Cindy is out. Cindy will be back on Monday and Danielle will remain in our room as well, for the time being. Have a wonderful weekend.
