Dear Parents,
What a busy and fun filled week it's been. The children are adjusting to their routines and seem very comfortable in the classroom. It's so nice to see them arrive in the morning, take responsibility for their belongings and find their "tushy mat" on the rug. They are willing and eager to start the day. We thank you for being on time, and the short, sweet good-byes, as it makes the transition for the children much easier. We are working hard on following directions and understanding expectations in the classroom. If you could talk with your children about what they have learned, regarding responsibilities and expectations, that would be very helpful. As we continue to talk about Rosh Hashanah, the importance of our community and being kind to one another, the children are learning songs and the traditions of the holiday. It's not just time for a sweet New Year now, but how important to recognize this all the time. Your little chefs were busy again, baking their very own apple pies. As we focused on the different colors of apples, their texture and smell, the children had a lot to say. Many of the children thought that the apples smelled like candy. This was a great activity to help develop their sense of taste and smell. To add to their cooking experience, the children will get the opportunity to decorate their own aprons next week. Music with Teacher Andrew was filled with laughter, singing, dancing, and pretending to fly. They are working hard on their listening skills, and look forward to Teacher Andrew and to what he has in store for them. As he strummed his guitar, the children were becoming aware of "high" and "low" sounds, as well as learning about texture through music. The guitar makes a "loud" sound, like a bumpy road, and a "quiet" sound, when it's smooth. Once again, we are so very lucky to have him. On Thursday, we celebrated the first day of fall by taking a nature walk around the school. We discussed how the leaves are changing color, and the children learned a song about the leaves. They collected leaves, twigs, and bark that had fallen from the tree. They also heard a nice story from Rabbi Josh. The children are exercising their bodies by running and jumping during outdoor play. They are swinging on the monkey bars, and sifting and shoveling sand in the sandbox. We always encourage them to drink water, as the days continue to be hot. We ended the week with a very special Shabbat. It was such a pleasure to have the Cohen family join us in the classroom. Next Monday, we begin our Havdalah service at the temple. It's a great way to start off the week and bring everyone together. Please have your children promptly at school at 9AM, as we leave for the temple at 9:20AM. Shabbat Shalom, and have a great weekend, Bam & Lindsay REMINDERS: Sept 26th- 9:20 Havdalah service for children Sept 28th- 9:00 A.M. Whole Child Discussion with Alex Yedidsion in Taub Annex.
