Room 9 Newsletter February 4th - 8th 2019
What an incredible week we’ve had in Room 9! This week we’ve so enjoyed the presence of many Dads and Grandfathers (and even an uncle!) coming in and spending some time here in our classroom with their child and grandchild. We’ve loved watching the interactions and relationships firsthand as you’ve painted, read books, built with legos and played with playdough. The children are so jubilant when they see the door open and a close member of their family comes in. During our music with Maestro, we had several Granddads join us and we all had a fun and playful time. We sang many songs together, played the drums and bells and all the while did a lot of movement. We also had library this week. Ryder’s mom, Tanya read two great books. After we Listened the books, the Dads and Grandfathers who came to the library with us also read books to their children/grandchildren. We had such a marvelous time in our beautiful library! We are continuing our discussion and theme of ‘all about me'. We will be reading the book Elmer by David McKee. We did start to introduce the book by holding it up and showing the class the cover and asking them: What do you see? We heard: colors, patterns, shapes, an elephant. Then we asked them: Who do you think the character of the book will be: most said an elephant. We asked the class if elephants live alone or not, and Hunter answered no, they live in herds. We wanted to introduce the concept of happiness, so we asked the class: what makes us happy? “When I go with my stuffed animals”. -Avery “When I snuggle with my teddy bear”. -Sarah “Eating candy and when I see candy.” -Hunter “When you play with someone funny.” -Adler “When I go to the car wash.” -Jordan “Cuddling with my family.” -Riley “Snuggling with daddy in my bed when he gets home.”-Avery “Playing Ninjas with my Daddy.” -Isabella “When I see candy and when I eat candy and when I cuddle with my dad.” -Whitman “Adler makes me happy.” -Ryder “My sisters make me happy.”-Liora "Sleeping with my animals at nighttime," Jake "Eating candy," Sonny At Storah time with Rabbi Josh we heard a wonderful story about Moses. He needed a place for him and his fellow Jews to go to sing and pray to God when they were in the desert. The Rabbi asked the children: What did they need to make a Temple? They answered: wood, a tent, a Torah, bricks, a door, metal, sticks, glass, and cement. They needed a Temple that could move from place to place. Moses needed an architect. When it was finished they called this portable Temple a “Mishcan” or Sanctuary. They needed to share with each other to make this Sanctuary come to fruition. We can relate to this story because it is important for us to learn the important skill of sharing daily! Our Friday schedule was its usual busy one with Hallah making, and P.E. with Coach Danny. We had so many Dads and Granddads attend and it was a joy to see the participation!
