On Monday a few of the kids in Room 9 found a spider under the table in our room. This got their wheels turning in their heads. They had a lot of questions about why the spider was there. This spiraled into a huge spider conversation. We went to the computer and looked up what different spiders looked like. The next day we put out books on spiders. At the school library we found more books with a lot of spider facts. They were able to give details about spiders and tell their experiences with spiders at home. We learned interesting facts about spiders which helped their initial thought that spiders are scary, creepy and harmful. They learned how beneficial they are to our earth and nature around us. We love how interested they became just be seeing a small spider in the corner of the room. We used our creative and critical thinking skills to create our own spiders and even spun a web. We started thinking like spiders.
Part of our Wise Learning Process curriculum focuses on pointing out details and facts. Our discussion about spiders brought the children to recall many details about spiders and ask their questions that we then further researched. After our kids found a spider under the table in our classroom, we started to research more into spiders. We found books and looked up information on the internet. Goals: We loved how interested our class was when they found a spider in the classroom. They asked a lot of questions about spiders. Our goal is for them to find out more information about spiders and answer their questions they have. Notes: Information they learned from a book. This is what they repeated. DETAILS
