Newsletter Room 9 May 27th - May 31st 2019
Although this has been a short week in Room 9, this has been a very busy week! We started the week with a visit from Kala, Sonny’s mom. She once again did an ‘actor’s workshop’ where the children were able to do all kinds of exercises which help them to get ready to express themselves before an audience. One was to imagine a string that extends from the top of your head which as you pretend to pull up you open your head and your heart to all the emotions you need to express. They did shoulder rolls, shaking out hands, legs and body, blowing air out of the mouth, and even sending a whoosh around the circle. Then the children did a one-word story game which started with the first child saying a word and around the circle the story went. The class also had a chance to act out the story that they wrote about the Wizard of Oz and we watched as many of the characters came to life. The whole experience was fantastic, and we thank Kala so much for her help and knowledge. This week we have also been discussing the holiday of Shavuot which will be celebrated on the second week of June. This holiday represents the time when Moses ascended Mt. Sinai and came back with the Ten commandments. G-d gave Moses ten rules because the Jewish people didn’t have rules and they needed them to live happily together. We asked the children what rules do you think are important? Here is what they said: “Treat people as you want to be treated.” -Whitman “Don’t hit anybody and don’t punch.” -Jordan “Treat people good, don’t cheat them and don’t treat them in bad ways.” -Riley “Don’t lie to people.” -Sarah “Be nice.” -Hunter “No punching.” -Sonny “Never hurt someone.” -Jake “Play nice with your brother.” -Adler “No yelling.” -Avery “We should always behave good.” -Ryder “Be nice to all your friends.” -Isabella This week we have also been busy making special things for the Dads in our lives. Even though Father’s Day comes after our class is no longer together, we feel that our dads are so special that we must acknowledge them, nonetheless! This year has been so special because we were able to visit the yoga studio and learn so much from teacher Cheryl and visit the gym and learn all about different sports and ways of using our bodies from Coach Danny. An important lesson that we want to teach the children is to express appreciation, so we made a thank-you card for both Teacher Cheryl and Coach Danny. We celebrated two summer birthdays, Liora’s and Jordan's. We all gave them our special birthday wishes and ate some yummy treats. Happy early birthday Liora and Jordan! We visited the Elementary School’s Art Show. We saw so much extraordinary artwork; it was truly an inspiration.
