Newsletter Room 9 October 22nd - October 25th
As a culmination to the High Holidays, the children in room 9 celebrated the holiday of Simchat Torah with our Wise Pre-School community. This is a joyous holiday that celebrates the love of Torah. We take the Torah scrolls out of the Ark and dance and sing with them. We talked about how we finish reading the Torah and then we start all over again at the beginning. In the classroom we learned that unlike books that go through a printing process and are mass-produced, a Torah is individually made by a person called a Torah Scribe and is written with a feather! The children had a chance to experience what it is like to draw and write with a feather by using various watercolors and feathers on paper. We also had a discussion using the Wise Learning Process. We asked four children to each go get a book. Then we asked a teacher to bring a book, too. The teacher brought a Torah. Right away Emma said, “hey, it’s not a book!”. Evan said, “it is a book.” From that we got into a discussion of what is the similarities and differences between a Torah and a book. Preston: “A book has pages.” Ella: “A book has pictures.” Jacob: “A Torah has a covering .” Madison: “Commandments are in the Torah” Kayla: “The Torah has Hebrew letters and a book doesn’t.” The highlight of our Simchat Torah celebration was going to our Sanctuary with Rabbi Josh during Storah time. Each child in Room 9 was able to encounter the Torah up close and personal up on the bimah. It was a special time, indeed. Reminders: Library reader Wed.
