Newsletter Room 9 April 8th - April 12th 2019
This week in room 9 we continued talking and learning about Passover. We discussed the desert, since the land of Egypt is located in the desert. We asked the class: What kind of plants live in the desert.? Avery said “Lots of cactuses and there is a lot of sand there.” Jordan said: “Not a lot of people, just lots of animals.” Liora said: “There are lots of trees.” Hunter said: “There are camels in the desert, too.” Then Sonny said: I know a name of a desert, California!” Suddenly everyone joined in. Jake said: “Yeah, I go to the desert with my family.” Clay … The children came to class on Tuesday to discover clay and trays on the table. Right away they wanted to delve into the new sensory activity. We explained that the idea was to create something that goes hand in hand with the Passover holiday. We discussed that the holiday is also called the holiday of Spring, the holiday of Freedom and the holiday of Matzah. We furthered discussed that Egypt is in the desert and explored some animals and vegetation that live in arid and dry climate. The children were encouraged to look through books to decide what they wanted to create. They were so excited They noticed the details of their subject, such as how many legs it has or if it has thorns, etc. The pictures we enclosed can show you how sophisticated and aware the children are becoming. With the clay the children created lizards, butterflies, cacti, Gila monsters and other interesting things. We introduced poetry to the class. We explained that poems are a way to express your thoughts and feelings using words. We read three beautiful poems about spring. Before we read the poems we asked the children to close their eyes and see what they could imagine from the words of the poems. It was so sweet to see the children sitting with their eyes closed and listening to every word. They truly loved hearing the poems, and they came up with wonderful ideas. This week the children have been working hard on the Passover Haggadah in preparation of our class Seder. It is a wonderful way to go through the story of Passover, all the while singing songs and saying prayers. They sing each song with much feeling and have tried very hard to learn each of the four questions. We know that when it comes to your own family Passover Seder your child will know and understand more this year from all that they have learned and taken in. Thank you for taking part in our Model Seder. Hine ma tov u’ma naeem - how wonderful it is to sit together as a loving community. The children were so happy to share their lives out of home with you. Thank you also for bringing all the Seder items. Last Friday the Fixmer family were our Shabbat family. Thank you for sharing Shabbat with us. Thank you to the Emrani family for being our very last Shabbat Family. Also, Happy Birthday to you, Ryder. We wish you and your families a good and relaxing spring break and we hope that your Passover is filled with happiness and joy.
