Newsletter for Room 9 October 16-19 2018
This week in Room 9 we continued discussing the fall season. The children were all excited by the windy weather over the weekend and wanted to share their experiences. “The winds were blowing all the clouds away!” -Hunter “It got so cold.”-Liora “We’re going to have to call the gardener because our tree fell”-Ryder “My tree had all their leaves fall.”-Riley “All the winds made my trees fall down.”-Whitman “The top of the trees fell down.”-Jordan The class went on a nature excursion around our campus. We have such a beautiful school that we did not have to go far to find things in nature. The children found various leaves, twigs, branches and pods. They were so excited by all they found. We came back to the room and talked about what we found. “I found some leaves on the downhill grass.”-Ryder “I climbed a tree.”-Sonny “I saw acorns.”-Jordan “I found a tree that had acorns, too.”-Hunter “I saw branches with green and yellow leaves.”-Whitman “I found some small leaves.”-Liora “I found a lot of sticks and a giant stick.”-Avery “I found a lot of leaves and one that was turquoise blue.”-Isabella “I saw pink flowers and I also saw longer sticks that came from the trees.”-Adler The next day we decided to sort and categorize our nature items. The children first sorted through the branches and twigs and put them out on a section of paper. Many were long, some short, others wide, some narrow. We will sort through the leaves and other items in the coming days. We also started our ‘letter of the week’ program. First we asked the class: What is the alphabet? Isabella said: “They are letters.” Whitman said: “We spell with them.” Riley said: “We can spell Avery.” Hunter: “We can spell Football.” Jordan said: “you can spell Jake.” Whitman then said: “If the alphabet wasn’t made you wouldn’t have words!” Hunter said: “If the alphabet wasn’t made we wouldn’t have our names.” This week we focused on the letter ‘A’. We had different kinds of objects out for the children to see that start with the letter A. The children talked about words that start with an A. We heard words such as apple, app, axe, ape, Avery and Adler. We also asked the children, how many A’s are in your name? It was a fun and learning experience.
