This week in Room 9 has been incredibly busy! We continue to retell the story of Thanksgiving, the Pilgrims and the Native Americans, and the children have been sharing their ideas and thoughts. They are enthusiastic and proud of their knowledge when they describe all they know about the Native American culture. The children shared their thoughts about how the Native American hunted for food using their homemade bow and arrows. They stood up to show how this can be done. They pulled back on their arms to show pulling back an arrow to then let go and target a buffalo. They shared that we get our food from the grocery store, but the Native Americans were not as lucky as we are. The class has created a “campfire” after collecting branches and twigs, and it’s so amazing to see them trying to make fire by using two pieces of wood and creating “friction”. The children also made beautiful “dream catchers” to catch their bad dreams.
The amazing culture of the Native Americans allows the children’s natural imagination to soar! We witnessed the class using a large piece of fabric that looks so much like buffalo fur to act out being a buffalo. One child became a buffalo by draping herself and getting down on the run. Another got bows and arrows and went hunting. It was magical. Shabbat Shalom, Rachel and Linda Reminders: -Next week we will focus on the letter “C”. Friday is share day.
