Although it has been a short week in room 3, it has been a busy one as well. After reviewing the detailed story of thanksgiving, the children were able to provide a great amount of information for their journals. Students have been linking patterns with Native American arts and crafts. For example, the children made headbands (which are what the Native Americans wore) and decorated them with their own patterns out of different shapes and colors. The children have also made their own necklaces using wooden beads and thanksgiving colors to represent their patterns. As well as working on making connections and creating patterns, the children have been improving their fine motor skills by beading, gluing, aligning, and snipping. We had a delicious Thanksgiving Feast with all of our Pre-K friends. The children experienced what it’s like to have a meal full of yummy food that we eat on Thanksgiving. There were stations with bracelet making, feather gluing, and turkey games. We are thankful for each and every one of your loving children. May the blessings of this Thanksgiving fill your heart and home with happiness! Have a great weekend. Vera and Karen The Holiday Boutique is just around the corner!! “Fall” has been our most popular topic in Room 3. Terms such as autumn, leaf, chlorophyll, bark, seed pod, pinecone, and pumpkin help the students support and define the relationships within this season. Their journal entries for the fall are thoroughly detailed and filled with creativity. We are so proud of their effort and hard work. We have welcomed Thanksgiving into room 3 by reminding each other of what we are thankful for and why. This has provided a deeper understanding of the word “thanks” for the children. We have been reading stories while discussing Thanksgiving in full detail.
We had a special visit to the elementary school science lab this week. The children learned about “photosynthesis” and observed all kinds of flowers, plants, and leaves. We took a look at a full-boned skeleton and learned about the different parts of the human body. After realizing that there were no ears and no nose on the skeleton, the children learned that those parts of our body are made of cartilage and not bone; which is why they were not located on the skeleton. The children absolutely love the different reptiles in the lab. They learned about the bearded dragon and that he is cold blooded, unlike humans. Therefore, his terrarium needs to be placed in the sunlight. A huge thank you to Lisa and Rebecca for reading stories to the children in the library this week. We enjoyed your visit very much! The children are making progress by practicing lower case letters, numbers, and word recognition. Also, they are constantly making connections with patterns in real life vs. patterns in the classroom. We can’t wait for the upcoming weeks with your wonderful children and especially for our Thanksgiving feast on Tuesday, November 25. We hope you enjoy your weekend, and Shabbat Shalom! Vera and Karen It has been a short and sweet week in Room 3. The children have created their own fall patterns using leaves, bark, pine cones, and other possessions that they collected during our nature walk. First they planned their design of choice, and then they glued it onto a piece of wood. For example; bark, leaf, bark leaf etc…) Along with their progress with patterns, they have been very motivated to work on their lower case letters. We are looking forward to a full week of school with your outstanding children. Hope you have a great weekend and Shabbat Shalom! Karen & Vera RemindersA special reminder from Marla:
We have two exciting events coming up next week and I look forward to seeing all of you there: The EC Morning Social on Wednesday, November 19 at 9:00 a.m. in Udko Annex. The WPA has engaged Pattie Fitzgerald, the Founder and author of Safely Ever After to speak to issues involving parents with early childhood aged children. Tot Shabbat on Friday, November 21 at 5:00 p.m. in Hershenson Hall - Make it a priority to join us for a meaningful service with Rabbi Spike and Ditza as we welcome in the Sabbath through song, story and a delicious dinner for both adults and children! click here to register. Fall is here, the leaves are changing colors, and the children absolutely love the nature. Room 3 went on a long walk and gathered all kinds of leaves and branches in their own separate bags. The children learned about bark, and how it is the outermost layer of stems and roots of woody plants. Each child had the opportunity to peel off and keep a piece of bark from a huge tree. The children learned the term “chlorophyll,” which is the green pigment found in the leaves. We have read a few books to help the children understand why leaves change color in the fall; and we are so proud of the connections the class has been making with the different trees and leaves they have learned about. A huge thank you to Myra and Golareh for reading two wonderful books to the children at the library this week; we were very excited to have them. The class had their first experience at “tricycle express”. This was a great way for the children to be active and practice their large motor skills. Room 3 made a visit to the Snoezelen room where they were exposed to a multi-sensory environment. The area was filled with lights, color wheels, glow sticks, projectors, and other sensory products. The children had a very soothing and enjoyable experience. After introducing lower case letters to the class, each child has been working on their own name for practice. From creating patterns to their writing skills, the children have been demonstrating progress and dedication. We are very proud of their hard work and we are excited to continue our lesson on lower case letters. As we introduce our new project that we will begin with Room 1, we have been discussing all about the different parts that make up a community. For example, the children know that in order to buy food we must go to a market, in order to send a package- we use the post office; and if we are sick, we can go to the doctor’s office. These discussions enable the children to make the different connections needed in order to understand what a community is all about. We are ready to embark on this journey of working together to establish, form, and build a community created by all of your children. Have a great long weekend and Shabbat Shalom!
