Dear Parents, The first half of the school year is coming to an end. Your children have grown so much since the beginning of the year and we hope you too have noticed their maturation. This week was a more relaxing week and we have been focusing on playing math games and honing in on beginning reading readiness skills. The class is starting to request more challenging games and concepts and you will be seeing these activities unfold when they return from Winter Break.. We had a visit from our fifth grader book buddies who read us a lovely story. We are also working on our Hanukkah journals. The children really enjoyed learning about the triumph of the Maccabees and the miracle of the oil that burned for eight days. We hope you enjoy the time with your family during the winter break and we look forward to seeing you on January 4, 2016. Shabbat Shalom, Anne and Vera Reminders: -December 18 to January 4th: Winter Break -January 18: Martin Luther King Jr. Day, school is closed -January 19: Professional Development Day, school is closed

What an exciting week we had!
The Hanukkah party was a tremendous success. We were so proud of all of our students~ We want to thank all the parents for coming and participating. We had a blast! All week we have been playing with our Hanukkah games: Toss the Dreidel: teaching the children to aim and bowling with the Hanukkah candles!!! We are also working on the dreidel game and learning to spin the small dreidel. We discovered that the small dreidels are more difficult to spin and it takes a lot of practice to learn. We learned that depending on what letter the dreidel falls, we either have to add or remove coins from the basket. Last Friday was our first class in the science lab. We met our science teachers and we also met a bearded dragon named Mr. B. The children enjoyed learning about the dragon's senses and discovered that animals have senses just like we do. Shabbat Shalom. Anne and Vera Reminders: - Friday December 18: early dismissal. -December 21 to January 3rd: winter break -January 4th: school resumes -January 18th: Martin Luther king Jr day, no school. We hope that you all had a great Thanksgiving and enjoyed the time with your family. We had a great time celebrating Thanksgiving here at school with all of our PreK friends. Linda from room 9 told us the story of Thanksgiving and Ditza came to sing with us. It was really fun! It is time to celebrate yet again!! This time we are going to celebrate the Festival of Lights. The children have been working very hard to prepare a special treat for their parents. We hope you will be able to come on Tuesday to celebrate Hanukkah in the classroom. Our party starts at 11:30! The children are working on their Hanukkiot and learning how they are made and why there is a special candle called the shamash. We are also learning about the story of Hannukah, and the miracle that happened in Jerusalem more than 2000 years ago. As part of the light up literacy program, the fifth grade children are going to come to our class on Monday and read stories to us. We are very excited to have them in our class. If you would like to participate, please bring $2.00 to buy books for the children in Guatemala. We have friendship bracelets made by the children in Guatemala to give to the children who participate. Shabbat Shalom. Anne and Vera Reminders: Tuesday December 8: Hanukkah party. 11:30 Friday December 11: Farmers market. Please bring a whole melon or pineapple by Thursday December 10 to the class.
