Happy New Year room 3! We missed everyone, and we are so happy to have you all back. The children could not wait to share their exciting stories with one another. Using their strong fine motor skills, each child thoroughly illustrated their winter break “experience” on paper with markers, crayons, and colored pencils. The drawings were a part of their journal entry titled, “My Winter Break.” One by one, the children dictated their descriptions to us as we wrote down their words to complete the entry. Since Martin Luther King Day is coming up, he has been the central topic of this week. We have discussed the depth of why it is important to accept everyone around us regardless of their race. After reading stories to the class about the historical leader and hero, MLK Jr., students understand how significantly important it is to recognize all people for who they are, and not by the color of their skin. Once the class heard MLK Jr.’s “I Have A Dream” speech, the children created a personal illustration of their own “dream.” Similar to their journals, the kids shared their interpretations to us as we wrote down their words below the drawings. We are ready for a productive and wonderful start to 2015 with all of your children! Shabbat Shalom and have a great weekend. With love, Vera and Karen RemindersSnack mom for week of January 12: Keili
