This week was all about the Torah. We started our week by going to the temple on Tuesday to attend service for Simcha Torah. The 5th and 6th grade students unrolled the Torah and the children were fascinated by its length. Since it is so long the children were able to understand why it take a long time to read the whole Torah. We explained that every Shabbat we read a part of the Torah and it takes us one year to read it all. We also learned that on Simcha Torah we roll the Torah back to the beginning and we start reading it again, every time we read it again we learn new things that we did not understand before because maybe we were too young. This lead us to ask the question: " What is in the Torah?" There is mainly stories, and holidays. We learned that the Torah also helps us know how to behave with others by telling us about the ten commandments. |
