ewsletter Room 9 January 13th - January 17th 2020
This week we continued to delve deeper into the amazing life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We asked the class: What is a Hero? “Someone telling a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot of important things. My mommy is my hero because she always does things right.” - Ella “When someone is in trouble, they save the day.” - Jacob “They save the day. When someone gets hurt, the hero flies the person to the hospital. My T.V. is my hero because I can watch it.” -Preston “Someone that is protecting his friends. My hero is my whole family because I love them.” -Emma “This is a hero, this morning, I watched a show about Elmo, and a friend got hurt and that’s a hero. My daddy is also my hero because he always turns the closet light on.” - Kayla “Someone who saves lives. My daddy is my hero, because he saves my life when I have bad dreams.” - Hardy “They get ice when someone is hurt. My sister is my hero because once I was sad and she helped me.” - Evan “If some teachers get hurt, Martin Luther King was a super hero and he saved the teachers. My mommy is my hero because she helps me clean my room.” - Madison Last week we started a wonderful project about our similarities and differences and how unique and special each of us are. As each child drew another and asked questions of each other, it helped to deepen and solidify the friendships in our classroom. Here are some of the similarities that the children discovered: (all of these came directly from the children after they paired up and discussed) Preston and Madison are the same because: They both like Vegetable noodle soup They both like Target They both have two sisters They both like super sour popsicles. Emma and Hardy are the same because: They both love pink, red and purple. They both like the movie Frozen. They both like pink unicorns. Jacob and Ella are the same because: They both have a brother. They both love spaghetti. They both love candy. Kayla and Evan are the same because: They both love orange flowers. They both love girl cheetahs. They both like Avengers. We challenged the children in the morning to make a creation that they could present at the end of the day. Preston and Hardy were immediately drawn to work on a 100 pieces floor puzzle. They were so excited that the entire patio time they worked on it. The rest of the class was so inspired by them that they also worked on other floor puzzles as well. At the end of the day, during their presentation, Hardy and Preston explained how much they enjoyed working in a team, and how proud they were that they never gave up and finished the puzzle. Thank you so much to Emma’s mom, Shiran, for being the library reader this week. We enjoyed it so much, and we know that Emma did as well! We want to thank Ella and the entire Ben-David Aloni family for coming in for Shabbat on Friday. We enjoyed welcoming Ella’s grandparents from Israel and it was so special having them here! Unfortunately none of our kids came to school today, so we invited room 1 to celebrate Shabbat with us. We hope to see all our friends on Wednesday feeling well and ready to have a great week.
