This week has been Passover, Passover and more Passover! At music on Monday, Maestro introduced some Passover songs and we also started practicing the 4 questions for our Passover Seder. As we recount this important and exciting story of the Exodus and freedom, the children are recalling ideas and parts of the story. The questions we have been hearing this week have been absolutely amazing. Some children were worried about where Pharoah is now. Other things we heard were, “Those pyramids are amazing!” “Can we still see what they built?” “Wow, Pharoah was not a nice guy.” They are enthusiastic and eager to talk about Pharoah, Moses, the plagues and the matzah.
We read the book, Joey and the Giant Box, by Deborah Lakritz. This book is about a little boy and his imagination. Just like the kids in Room 9, he can turn a big box into just about anything. This box was just too big for his room and there was no space for anything else to fit. He went to the store with his mom and came upon a SOVA bin. After returning home, he decided he wanted to make his own SOVA bin. He brought it to his classroom to have the kids in his class help him with this project. They were instantly excited and helped to decorate the box. This is a great reminder for all of us to chip in and help our very own SOVA bin at WISE School. This coming Monday we will have a SOVA drive. Please send your child to the classroom with an item to donate to the SOVA bin. We will visit the SOVA market as a class on Monday morning. You can stop at the market with your child and pick up a bag, or you can take the bag home, fill it and bring it back to a SOVA bin. You can go with your child to the SOVA table, pay for a bag of groceries right there. This is a huge mitzvah we are talking a lot about in class.
