Room 9 had a terrific week of fun and celebration! All of Pre-K came together on Tuesday for Yom Ha’atzma'ut, Israel’s birthday. We had an Israeli shuk or market place out on our patio. It was a beautiful day and as the children strolled around holding their Israeli “shekels,” they were able to choose what food or drink they wanted to taste. We overheard them saying, “Can I have some more yummy lemonade with fresh mint in it?” “I don’t have any more money, but I really want some more Israeli salad.” “This is the best day ever!” “Happy, happy birthday Israel!” We had, pita and hummus, olives and pickles, Israeli salad and lemonade with fresh mint picked from our garden at school. The children cut their own strips of paper to put a blue and white chain together. We talked about patterns and how they repeat. The children wanted to use blue and white paper to match the Israeli flag. The chains made our shuk look festive! There was also a replica of the Western Wall or Kotel where the children wrote notes to God and then lovingly placed them inside. It was such a wonderful and special day for all!
