We are getting closer to our Pre-K Celebration. The kids are very excited to show you all that they have been practicing for. We had our first rehearsal with the whole Pre-K class and wow, it blew us away. This is going to be such a special day and the kids have worked really hard for it.
We started off the week making connections between the Torah and a book. We finished the holiday of Shavuot where we talked about the 10 commandments. We compared the similarities and differences between the Torah and a book. They loved looking at the two and having a discussion in small groups. We were most surprised that they were able to come up with so many differences. This is what they said, “They are shaped differently.” “A book has English words and the Torah has Hebrew words.” “Some books have pictures, and the Torah doesn’t have any pictures.” “You turn the pages in a book, and the Torah you roll.” “The Torah opens up really long.” We really enjoyed welcoming you into our rooms this week to celebrate the year together. The kids have really grown up and learned so much. We appreciate you taking the time to come join us and reflect on the past year. We are continuing our countdown until the last day of school together. Taking a link off our chain has been the highlight of each day. It is a lot of fun to reminisce about all that we have learned this year. We are extremely proud and surprised about how much they remember. With Pre-K ending in just a few short weeks, we are all having different feelings about this next stage. The kids have been expressing this in many different ways. We read a book about feelings. We talked about how we all have many feelings about different things. This stemmed into a discussion about our feelings about leaving Pre-K and entering Kindergarten. Here is what they said. “I’m a little bit shy and a little bit silly about meeting new friends.” “I’m a little bit nervous about meeting new friends in Kindergarten.” “I’m a little bit sad because I’m going to miss my teachers.” “I feel excited and a little bit sad.” “When you leave Pre-K you’re going to be a little bit worried because I’ve never learned in Kindergarten yet.” “I’m nervous because there will be new teachers.” “I feel a little bit happy and a little bit lazy.” “I feel our jobs won’t be alike and we won’t have the same responsibilities.” “I feel happy and a little bit sad.” “I feel happy and sad because I’ll miss Linda and Rachel.” “I feel happy.” We have really enjoyed meeting with Rabbi Josh and Rabbi Sari this year. We look forward to when they come to our room to talk about the current holiday or the Torah portion for the week. We are very lucky that we have such amazing Rabbis that take their time to come teach us a bit of Torah.
