What a nice time for many celebrations. As we finish up celebrating Sukkot, we are incorporating and making connections to the holiday of Simchat Torah. We even read a book about Simchat Torah in the sukkah! A mitzvah the kids learned about this week was inviting guests into the sukkah. We invited an explorers class to join us for lunch one day. They loved sitting with the younger kids and engaged in conversation. We discussed asking questions and how you can ask for information. We overheard some children asking questions such as, “What is your favorite color?” “What is your name, and how old are you?” “Did you make decorations for the sukkah?” This is a skill that will help them as they grow up. Engaging in conversation and going up to someone to start a conversation. We will do this other times throughout the year. For music this week, we joined Room 2 in the sukkah with Maestro and Rabbi Josh. We sang songs, danced in a circle and shook the luav and etrog. We talked about how G-d is all around us and we shake the lulav and etrog all over to show this. We were able to open up a mini torah we have in our classroom. We discussed how Simchat Torah we celebrate the end of the torah and how we start again from the beginning. We connected this idea to how much we love reading books. We don’t just read a book once and throw it out. We can read this book over and over again. We can look at the book and torah and take new meaning out of the story each and every time.
