We started off the week digging deeper into the story of Thanksgiving. We got to be experts when Room 7 came to join us to hear the story as well. They were so proud when they were able to give details about what they remember. They beaded new necklaces and got to pick their very own Native American name. Beading helps their find motor muscles in their hands to help get stronger. Each time they hold the string and take a bead to find the hole, their finders have to work extra hard. They knew so much about the culture of the Native Americans already that they were very excited and proud to pick these names. They learned about adding adjectives to their names to add detail to it. Some of them are: Princess Bright Shining Star, Chief Strong Hibernating Bear, Princess Long-Eared Coyote, Chief High Flying Eagle, Princess Quick Running Buffalo, Princess Galloping Pony, Princess High Flying Bird in the Sky, Princess Pretty Fast Running Horse. We can’t wait to wear these necklaces at our own Pre-K Feast next week. Music seems to be in the souls of the kids in Room 9. We have been talking about cultures and music that comes from all these amazing cultures. They are teaching each other songs and we are teaching them new songs as well. We have talked about similarities and differences between these songs. We put Geo Boards out for the class one morning to see what they would come up with. These are wooden boards that have pegs coming out of them to create pictures and shapes with rubber bands. This is not only great for creating different pictures and shapes, but stretching the rubber bands are really good for their fine motor skills. They came up with some great shapes and stories to go with them.
