Newsletter Room 9 November 4th - 8th 2019
This week in Room 9 we began focusing on the story of the Pilgrims and the Native Americans, and how their collaboration impacted the first and subsequent Thanksgiving celebrations. We started this fascinating journey by reading a book titled The Pilgrims’ First Thanksgiving by Ann Mcgovern. As the story unfolded, the children were mesmerized by the struggles of the Pilgrims and the amazing culture and friendship that the Native Americans brought to them to help the Pilgrims live in the New World. Dream catchers are one of the many objects that Native Americans created. Native Americans believed that these beautiful objects would protect sleeping children from bad dreams and nightmares and let the good dreams pass through to comfort the sleeper below. This week we began the three- step process of making our own dream catcher. We can’t wait for the finished product! This week we also started our ‘Letter of the Week’. Each week the children will be introduced to a letter of the alphabet. We will explore how to write it, both upper and lower case, the sound the letter makes, words that start with that letter and on Friday the culmination will be that the children can bring in an item that starts with that letter to share. Thank you to the Barcohana Family for being our first Shabbat Family!
