We love making connections! We make connections on the yard, at home and even in other classrooms around the school. We were able to visit the Science Lab today at the elementary school. We have worked hard on our Wise Learning Process unit of Speedometry. During Science, we made connections to the ideas of push and pull. We learned about how much force it takes to break down a wall. We had a discussion about what tools to use depending on the force we would need. The children put this to work by practicing pulling up a string with a “wrecking ball” attached to it to knock down cups. They had to make sure they didn’t use too much force or they would knock something down behind the cups.
We continued the activity the next day in the classroom. We heard the kids say, “If we hold the ball up higher and let it go, it is just like when we put the hot wheel tracks up higher, the cars go faster!” We also looked through magazines and worked on our cutting skills. We cut out items that we categorized into “push" and "pull.” The children love shouting out the vocabulary words they have learned. The children have been so engaged in the process of making Afikoman holders. They are proud to share these with you at your seders at home. Every child expressed how much fun it was to sew two pieces of felt together, and how they love to sew. They worked on their hand eye coordination, putting the plastic needle into the hole while they pulled it closed. The next day, the children got to decorate their bags with glitter glue and foam stickers. We look forward to celebrating with all of you at our Passover Seder next Tuesday, April 4th in Room 9 at 11:00.
