Dear Parents, This week in room 14 was all about Sukkot. Jaclyn, Sasha’s mother, read a book to the children “Tamar’s Sukkah.” Thank you, Jaclyn! We started the week by visiting the Sukkah in the Parenting Center. The children made special ornaments to decorate the Sukkah and make it colorful and pretty. Room 12 Joined us in the Sukkah as the Rabbi told us a Sukkot story. Rabbi Sari also taught us the blessings we say in the Sukkah, as well as the four species and what they mean. We saw that the lulav is long, and the etrog resembles a lemon in its shape and color. Each child got to hold the four species and smell them and shake them in the special way Rabbi Sari taught them. We had so much fun sitting in the Sukkah and looking at the sky through the S’chach (roof), that we decided to go again and have a picnic in the Sukkah by the the elementary classes. The children were so thrilled having a picnic in the Sukkah! When they were done eating, they ran and played together in the Sukkah, it was beautiful to see how happy they were and what a united group they have become! Last week part of the class went out to a trip in nature, and this week we all went together. The kids had so much fun running on the lawn in the open space, jumping on rocks, playing hide and seek and rolling through the grass. We came upon a special plant (Aloe Vera) and had a small discussion about the plant that we found. We saw how inside the plant there a special liquid we can put on burns and bites. James saw that there were clouds in the sky, and he told everyone how beautiful the sky was, and afterwards more children looked for shapes in the clouds. We talked about how clouds resemble feathers. Phoenix F. found a lizard, and Liam collected leaves which we brought to class. In class we processed about what we’ve seen, we looked at the leaves and saw their shape, size and colors were different from each other. We tried to guess why and one of the children suggested it could be a family of leaves, with a dad and a baby. We talked about our memories from the trip and compared human-made objects to natural ones. It was amazing to see how fascinated the children are with nature and how excited they are investigating it. On Friday, we visited the farmers market. Part of the children knew that in advance and told us they’d been there before but for some it was a new experience. The children loved to hang around and buy themselves a fruit cup. Reminders: No School on Monday, October 21st. Do not forget to sign up for Parent/teacher Conferences. Thank you. Shabbat Shalom and Happy Sukkot!
