Dear Parents,
As the children have continued to show interest in our holidays, often during Purim reenacting the story with felt characters, we have begun exposing them to Passover. Through simple provocation, we hid frogs around the room and placed Passover themed books along our front wall. They were curious why these items were out, and many saw the connection to the pictures in our Passover matching game. During the matching game, children are learning to be patient while turn taking and remembering which cards are where, strengthening their short-term memory. At our sensory table, we laid out sand, leading to discussions about the climate in Egypt. When asked what they thought the weather would be, it was clear that they made the connection with sand to hot weather. Later in the week we added Egyptian themed items and people for more exposure to the pictures often associate with Passover. During music with Teacher Andrew, the children sang Passover songs and used hula-hoops as Lilly pads for jumping, as well as helping to provide children with an understanding of their space and others. Our yoga class with Teacher Sheryl has continued to be popular among the children. We find them singing the songs as we are walking around and knowing the words when we do the breathing exercises.
