Dear Room14 Parents,
We brought in the week with a discussion about being thankful. With Thanksgiving approaching, we are working on this idea through many aspects of our classroom life--we read a story and explained the meaning of being thankful. We asked the children what they are thankful for. Eden had much to be thankful for and enjoyed sharing it all with the class, “I am thankful for my family, my teachers, my friends, my aunt, my cousins and school.” This will be a continuous topic in our classroom since we have so much to be thankful for today and always. We also discussed what goes on at our Thanksgiving table. The children said they enjoy turkey, pumpkin pie and mashed potatoes. We are so excited to bring in Thanksgiving next week with our friendship feast. “I just made a pattern”- Abby. The introduction of patterns was a topic of the week. We placed cubes out with blocks, and the children tried to make patterns using two different colors. We used larger color blocks to make patterns on the carpet. It was exciting to see the children get so excited to guess what the next color of the pattern would be. The ability to recognize, identify, and create patterns not only supports mathematical learning, it also contributes to broader social development. By understanding patterns, children can make predictions about what should come next. We also took our first trip to the library and the children enjoyed it so much. We read, “There was an old lady who swallowed a fly” and “The napping house.” When we were finished reading, the children could pick their own book and find a cozy spot on the carpet to read. The library is such a wonderful place for us to go. It’s such a treat to escape to a quiet room filled with books and adventure. Our big science project this week was making playdoh. We voted between which fall color we wanted. The children loudly agreed on orange and the fun began. We let the children mix and stir the ingredients. We used measuring cups and tablespoons and got to practice our math skills. Playdough increases fine motor strength and allows the children to get creative and use their imagination. We put the playdough out on the table with pumpkins and gourds. The children covered the pumpkins with playdough and made pumpkin pie. Andrew surprised us this week with scarves, egg shakers and sticks! The children get so excited when Andrew comes because they know it’s time to sing and dance. Andrew comes in with so much love and energy and it is exactly what we need. Music helps children to speak more clearly, to develop a larger vocabulary, and to strengthen social and emotional skills. We ended the week with a beautiful Shabbat with Abby and her family. We hope you have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing you Monday Shabbat Shalom Reminders: November 22- Friendship Feast November 23rd- 25th – No school Thanksgiving Break December 2- Alexandra is Shabbat girl
