Dear Parents,
We had so much fun this week really throwing ourselves into learning about Thanksgiving. We have begun making our turkeys out of all natural materials that the children picked up on our nature walk last week. Each will look very unique and the children feel connected as they personally chose their natural items. We have also been reading Thanksgiving themed books about being grateful for what we have and thankful for the people in our lives who loves us. This has been our focus in our Thanksgiving discussions. Below there is a list of the books that we have read that we recommend if any of you are looking for fantastic books about being grateful. We also have been discussing the foods that we typically eat at Thanksgiving and cooking items that they will likely see. This week, we made mashed potatoes and mashed sweet potatoes. We discussed the ingredients that went in as the children added them in, what each of them does to the potatoes, they mashed the potatoes themselves, compared the flavors and we practiced our descriptive vocabulary. Music this week was exciting as Andrew introduced new instruments, drums and tambourines, to the children. They loved exploring these new musical instruments and Andrew has been doing a lot of songs that help us clap out how many syllables are in the children’s names and other items. The children also have begun beading, which strengthens their fine motor skills and we also used it as an opportunity to reinforce the patterning work that we have been doing with AB and AAB patterns. We celebrated Rylee’s 4th birthday and had quite the celebration. Thank you to her family for providing the fruit and treats. We would also like to thank Fred Dardashti, Maximus’ father, and Sandy Shadgoo, Michaela’s mother, for donating hot wheels and babies to our classroom. The children had so much fun with them and we are very grateful for your generosity. Reminders: Our friendship Thanksgiving feast is on Tuesday. Please be sure to bring in your items either on Monday or Tuesday (it is different for different items) and again, the feast is for children only. Parents will be welcome to join our Hanukkah party (dates and sign up reminders to come on Monday.) There is no school next Wednesday through Friday. Shabbat Shalom, Room 14 teachers
