Dear parents,
This week was filled with new games and activities where the children connect with one another. We had a very simple carpet set up this week, with recycled boxes and other materials, which encouraged imaginative play, creative thinking and cooperative play. It was a wonderful example of how children can have fun with much less than we think. Also exciting for the children this week was the introduction of a tabletop game, The Sneaky Snacky Squirrel Game. The game promotes turn taking, requires matching colors, following instructions, and strengthens fine motor development when they use the squirrel to catch the acorns. At first a teacher would sit with the children to introduce the rules and ensure that the play went smoothly. After a couple of days, the children were able to monitor themselves. At our sensory table, the children explored clear slime and noted the differences between this type of slime and others that we have played with. We progressed to putting items inside of the clear slime and went further days later by adding rolling pins as tools to use. We have continued our discussions of thankfulness and gratitude, focusing on these values as the takeaway for the children for the Thanksgiving holiday. At the end of this newsletter are titles of a few of the books that we recommend with this theme. The children have begun a special art project for thanksgiving, which started with their exposure to the material: clay. The clay was put out as a sensory experience for the children and showed them the difference between many kinds of sensory putty materials. We had our “Storah time” this week with Rabbi Woznica and he beautifully connected our themes for Thanksgiving with gratitude in Judaism. Thank you to Eitan and his family for spending Shababt with us and celebrating his birthday. Reminders: Library parent next week is Isabella’s mother Neda Shak.
