Dear Parents, There is so much to be thankful for! A thankful heart usually is not something that is a natural inclination. Thankfulness is an attitude we model and teach to our children. We have started these Thanksgiving conversations with the children during group time. We have given examples, read books and asked questions. We will continue discussing what it means to be thankful, having gratitude, which can be a hard concept for small children to understand, however we will incorporate this in our discussions, play and exploration. Rabbi Sari told us a story about friendship and forgiveness. She incorporated Jacob and Esau from the Torah into the story, the twin brothers who had a conflicting relationship. One brother asked, “After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand, and now you write on a stone. Why?” The brother who did the writing replied, “When someone hurts us, we should write it in sand, where the winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone, where it will be long remembered.” The lesson of the story is that each of us makes mistakes. Each of us will say something that may hurt someone’s feelings. We need to focus on the good deeds that others do for us rather than the negative. Being Thankful! Also, this week we continued exploring pumpkins through cooking (Pumpkin Bread), art, play and books. Last week the children examined the outside of the pumpkin. We removed the top and encouraged them to explore, ask questions and investigate with their hands, eyes, ears, and nose. This week we slowed things down a bit so that we can continue next week with Pumpkin Science. The Studio This week at the studio we learned a new technique called Quilling. Each child wrapped a strip of paper on a thin stick and made a spiral of paper, then dipped the spirals and glued them on one canvas, creating one image in collaboration. For some of us, the stick fell off and we rolled the strap with our fingers or palm. We have seen that there are different ways to achieve the same result and that when everyone is comfortable working differently, this is how we learn from one another. Reminders:
