As thanksgiving comes to an end we welcome a new holiday; Hanukkah. We introduced the holiday with books. (Dreidel play also took place) We read “The littlest Maccabee” and “Hanukah “The stories opened our minds to new information about Judea, the Maccabees and the true miracle of light. As we continued to look back on being thankful the children decided having light is something we really need to be thankful for.” I am thankful for light because at night I would be scared if we didn’t have any” It’s amazing how much everything connects, thankfulness and respect play a huge part of our Hanukkah discussions.
Our trip to the library was a huge success. Our friend’s mommies got to join us and read us books. The library is such a nice way for our friends to sit down, get a book and do picture readings. Watching the children “read” books to one another was very special. The library is so important for our children because it truly gives them a lifetime of learning and imagination. During music time, we learned some Hanukkah songs as well; (Hanukah o Hanukkah and I had a little dreidel) We practiced our songs using bells and sticks. We also used scarves to twirl around. It’s fun when Andrew comes because he knows how to give our children the confidence they need and he truly brings out the biggest smiles in each of their faces. A special treat this week was a visit from Rabbi Josh with our friends from Room 15. He gave our class some history on the Hanukkah dreidel and what the letters mean. (N= Miracle, Gadol= Great, Haya= happened Sham= there) “A great miracle happened there” We also discussed about the great Maccabees. “What’s a Maccabee again?” “Why was Antiochus mean” The questions for Rabbi Josh piled up. Afterwards we learned how to sing “I had a little dreidel” in Hebrew! So now we know the song in two languages We ended the week with a beautiful Shabbat with Tatiana and her family. Wishing you all a relaxing weekend and we will see you Monday! Reminders: December 5- Please be on time because we will be celebrating Havdalah in the morning with Jen and Rabbi Josh. December 9- Tot Shabbat December 15- Hanukkah Party with parents
