Dear Parents,
We had such an exciting week in room 14 as we have begun our study and exploration of Hanukkah! We have been telling the story through many books that we got at our library, playing games like bingo with Hanukkah symbols, and reinforcing those symbols through art projects. We have also begun playing the memory game “what is missing?” We put out different Hanukkah items, the children close their eyes, we remove an item and the children identify what item has been taken away. This works on the children’s memory, identifying symbols of the holiday, and increases their confidence to participate in group activities. We also had playdough out this week that was blue with silver glitter that the children really enjoyed! We noticed them making patterns with shapes they were making with the playdough and using tools that also were the symbols of Hanukkah. Some people have asked for our playdough recipe so I have put it below. Thank you to Elijah’s mom Leila for coming in this week and making latkas with the children. They really enjoyed the cooking process and trying them. We also had our farmers market this week where the children got to eat delicious fruit and donate money to a wonderful cause. Thank you for all of your donations. Reminders: Tot Shabbat on December 8th with the Beat Buds at 5:30pm in Zeldin-Hershenson. Library moms next week are Hedyah Shaoul and Leila Berjis. Shabbat boy next week is Maximus. Our Hanukkah party is December 14th at 11am and parents are invited, but we have limited space so please no siblings or extended family. Shabbat Shalom, Room 14 teachers Play dough recipe: 3 cups flour 1.5 cups salt 3 tbls cream of tartar 3 tbls vegetable oil 3 cups boiling water Food coloring Optional glitter or essential oils. Directions: Boil water on the stove top. Mix dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Add vegetable oil and stir together. Pour food coloring into the boiling water. Add boiling colored water to dry ingredients and mix with a spoon for a couple minutes until cool enough to handle with hands. Once the play dough comes together, other items such as glitter or essential oils can be added. Some ideas: yellow play dough with lemon essential oils, purple play dough with lavender essential oil and adding course raw sugar or brown sugar to give texture.
