Passover is in the air and all around us. We started the week at our Art Center set with symbols of Passover. The children painted with Frogs. As they hopped them on the paper dipped in green paint, we asked each child to talk about what they like about the frogs. The frog jumps and their words will be their own personal placemats for our Seder. The story of Passover has been introduced slowly over the week, and we have taken turns acting out different parts. As we incorporate our songs into the story. We are sure that your children will teach you all the songs at your Seder table. Tuesday was library and Brahm's mom treated us to, "Sammy Spider's First Passover," by Sylvia Rouss. It was a fun way to learn about some more traditions of Passover. We are going to talk on Friday about different traditions at our homes. On Wednesday our class received a gift of a Pyramid, a Sphynx, and an Ankah (Onk) a Hieroglyph symbolizing renewal and life. The excitement in the children's eyes was glowing. They each took turns climbing in and out of the Pyramid. We used our props to further explain the story of the Israelites and the Exodus. Our fun and learning continued all week as we banged our hammers and dug deep with our shovels. Moses came to our rescue. Of course, the class played with locusts, wild beasts, cows, hail and had lots of fun with sunglasses making our room dark as night. The class crossed over the Red Sea, and we imagined each of us crossing over until the last Israelite was safe on the other side, leaving all the Egyptians on the other side of the sea. We were all so happy to be safe that we danced and danced until we could dance no more. Could you imagine with all that going on that we still had time to play on the yard! On Wednesday with the sun shining over us, the class enjoyed playing in the corner yard with the blue climbing/sliding equipment. The children had so much fun climbing the rock wall side and hiding in the tunnel. In the classroom we learned to play Hop Scotch, practicing our jumping, hopping, counting forward and backwards to 10. Shabbat is our time to take a breath and bake our challah. This week we were all Shabbat Emas and Abbas, joining our voices and spirits as one at the Shabbat table. Even as we relaxed, we spoke about the story of Passover by introducing the food on our Seder plates as well as Elijah's Cup. Next week we will begin to make our own plates and cups. Just wait, our families tables will be even more special with these items. On Monday, we will visit our first ever SOVA market!
